Compiled by David Scott Hamnes
The Organ Historical Trust of Australia is delighted to present a comprehensive catalogue of Australian organ composition. The Trust expresses its gratitude to David Scott Hamnes for making this material available to a wide readership. The catalogue was compiled as part of a Master of Music thesis at the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne.
The author would be pleased to receive further details of the works listed, corrections and information relating to any compositions that have been omitted, their composer, with dates, the name of the works, with dates, and number of pages, together with their location and publication details where relevant. Please provide the details specified below, and send this information to David Scott Hamnes.
This catalogue includes solo organ works and other works in which the organ plays a major role. Works for choir and organ where the organ is assigned an accompanying role are excluded. The works include those by Australian-born composers, some of whom have subsequently settled overseas, together with works composed in Australia. Many of the early works have proven difficult to locate and any information on extant copies would be appreciated. At a later stage, the author proposes to add a further column listing publication, recording and location details. Further information on current research by David Scott Hamnes is located at www.davidhamnes.com.
David Scott Hamnes' paper, "Australian Organ Composition: A Brief History 1788 - 2002", is also available for download.
This catalogue is arranged by composer in alphabetical order.
